Runa Sailing Trip
When: February (Week 2/3)
What: A day trip to Tauranga Yacht Club to be instructed in how to sail in a 6-man yacht and on-land activities around sailing and navigating the sea.
Why: This activity forms part of the study of our ancestors and how they came to settle in NZ. Students will learn about how sailboats work in terms of buoyancy, wind, navigation, sail material, ropes, pulley systems etc.
How: Sailing coaches qualified in first aid and water safety will run the sailing with groups of 5-6 students in a boat 1-2km from shore. Teachers will run on-land activities on navigation and settlement to Aotearoa.
Where: Tauranga Yacht and Powerboat Club at Sulphur Point
Cost: $50 (payable to the main office or on the TBC Parent Portal)
Aongatete Forest Trip
An Ecology Field trip to Aongatete Forest to study local ecosystems and pest management. This will be a great way for the students to get hands-on with their learning about pest species for their current Inquiry. The question they are trying to form answers to is “What should be done to reduce the harmful effects of a pest species in the Bay of Plenty?”
When: March (Week 6/7)

Y10 Trips
Y10 Inquiry Camp - Kotahitanga
What: 5 day outdoor adventure-based camp
Why: To develop students through various outdoor challenges that focus on leadership, teamwork and collective action e.g. environmental community-project, adventure-based learning, camping outdoors, bushcraft, kayaking etc.
Where: Hillary Outdoors Coromandel (Port Charles)
When: August (Week 6/7)
Cost: $1000 approx
*A parental fundraising group will be established at the start of the year to help with finances.
Camp Focus: The camp would form a part of the student's final inquiry in the programme where they are answering the fertile question:
"How can I develop myself as a leader to benefit my future community and whanau?"
Structure of 3-week Inquiry #10 - Kotahitanga
Week 1 - Camp
Week 2 - Synthesise what was learned on camp into a local community project - small groups.
Week 3 - Run community project
